What: Cultural Program by TASF
Telugu Association of South Florida celebrated Ugadi festival with a cultural program on Saturday 23rd April 2011 at the Hollywood Center for Performing Arts, Hollywood, Florida. The program started with a puja by priest Sri Chakravarthy gAru, blessing the audience for a happy and prosperous Khara nAma samvatsaram.
Local kids from the area (in and around Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach) sang and danced to popular Telugu music as well as to Classical music. The event was hosted by Smt. Rajeswari Singam, Sri Gopal Kambhampati, and Kumari Deepthi Singam.
Kuchipudi performances that were choreographed by local dance teachers and parents were some of the highlights of the program. The cutural program was organized by Cultural Secretary Smt. Sree Mondraty and Joint Cultural Secretary Smt. Reshma Thummadi.
The Secretary of the Committee, Sri Kiran Mutukuru, honored the trustees who were all in attendance. One of the trustees, Sri U.S. Prasad gAru spoke on behalf of the trustees, reminisced the first days of TASF (it was formed in 1983), and expressed pride in the community and the smooth functioning of the committee through the years.
In total there were around 114 kids that performed for 26 items that also included 3 skits.
Trustee Sri Nandu Dhanekula and the sports co-coordinator Sri Prasad Oruganti presented trophies to various sporting events that were organized earlier in the year. The Friendship cup is an Inter-Association Cricket tournament in South Florida. In its first season of participation, the TASF team won the cup and they got another chance to lift the cup in front of the home crowd. They also presented trophies to the winner and runner-up of the 1st TASF tennis singles championshipthat was held during Sankranti picnic.
A few people responsible for teaching local kids Telugu language and Philosophy were recognized and awarded during the event. The cultural program ended after all the participants were recognized with personalized trophies. The stage was filled with kids that participated as The President of the Committee, Sri Anil Lakum, presented the trophies.
The program ended with dinner from a local Indian restaurant and community networking. TASF Vice-President Sri Tirumala Rao Bandarupalli, Joint Secretary Sri Srinivas Madabhushi, and Treasurer Smt. Rekha Sayee, along with other members of the committee ensured that the program went without a glitch.
